SlingTV

Role: Principal UX Designer / 2015 - 2017

I was recruited to work on SlingTV through an innovation lab, Acumen Digital. Brought on by the CPO to work on all platforms and find a clearer path forward and advance thinking and execution of experiences on the platform. I did a lot of advanced exploration work to push the boundaries and offer Sling new and innovative paths forward. Some work is active in the app, and others were R&D projects.

Experimental App Experience

I proposed this solution for Sling a year before HULU, September 2015, came out with their current UI system. I was extremely excited about this concept as it offered a simple solution to an extensive catalog of channels and content. This approach simplified 500+ possible channels with 1000 times less effort with asset management with logos and content combined. When HULU launched a similar version, I was pretty bummed.

The navigation system wasn’t reliant on logos for hundreds of channels. The big thinking here is that people don’t watch channels they watch content. The content held a bigger emotional draw than many logos, and this approach values that thinking. Playing into the “I saw something for that.” “I’ve heard about that!” You get the point. The navigation structure was much friendlier towards many different screen sizes allowing for a more singular navigation system to live on a large catalog of supported devices.
